SPACE Exclusive

Click HERE to check out an exclusive clip from the upcoming zom-com Dead Before Dawn 3D, which lurches into theatres on August 2. Directed by Niagara Falls native April Mullen (who shot most of the movie in her hometown), the film’s stars include Christopher Lloyd (in a very Christopher Lloyd-y role), Devon Bostick, Martha MacIsaac, Brandon Jay McLaren, Brittany Allen, and Kids in the Hall’s Kevin McDonald.

While Dead Before Dawn features its share of cadaverous cheerleaders drooling blood, it’s not a straightforward zombie story. That’s because these zombies aren’t just zombies, they’re demons too. Or to use the more technical term, they’re “zemons.” Sounds kinda cute!

The plot centres on a well-intentioned but apocalyptically clumsy young man named Casper Galloway (Bostick), who invites his college friends to visit a dusty old occult store belonging to his grandfather (played by Christopher Lloyd in the type of eccentric-old-man part we love him for). It’s a fun day until Casper, you know, breaks an ancient urn containing a catastrophic and irreversible curse. Once hexed, Casper and his buddies can’t look anyone in the eye—or else that person immediately kills themselves, only to rise again as a demonic, flesh-eating zemon. Judging by the trailer, the film features a generous portion of possessed moms and murderous football fans—as well as one pretty cool eighties camper van. Plus, lots of dudes crying.

And by the way, this blog post is cursed too. Check out the pics and clip below, or else you’ll probably turn into a flesh-eating cheerleader. – See more at: http://www.space.ca/article/Watch-this-exclusive-clip-from-Dead-Before-Dawn-3D#sthash.HJJF0Q7E.dpuf

“We were honoured to be a part of the festival and to be nominated for such a distinctive award, surrounded by the world’s top 3D specialists.  Being at the awards ceremony in the breathtaking Royal Wallonie Opera House and winning the Perron Crystal Award for our extremely hard work in 3D was exhilarating.  We share this award with our talented and passionate Stereographer, Jeff Packer, cast, crew, Red Lab Digital, DJ Woods, Billy White, Telefilm Canada and the OMDC.  The 3D behind Dead Before Dawn 3D would not have been possible without the belief and magic that everyone involved brought to the project.”  Mullen expresses.

“There are so few independent 3D filmmakers in the world and creating strong, innovative 3D is extremely difficult, so it was reinvigorating to be surrounded by the world’s top 3D experts and humbling to have be given such an important award.  We shot Dead Before Dawn 3D in a record breaking 20 days with 2 years of pre-planning for the 3D.  At the time we shot the film the 3D workflow did not even exist, but here we are on the other side now. The award is a symbol that anything is possible.”  Doiron says.

Dead Before Dawn 3D was the first fully Canadian live action Stereoscopic Feature Film and marks April Mullen as the youngest and only female director of this kind.  The film follows a bunch of college kids who accidentally unleash an evil curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into Zombie Demons, aka ZEMONS!  The film stars Devon Bostick, Christopher Lloyd, Martha MacIsaac, Brandon Jay McLaren, Kyle Schmid, Brittany Allen, Rossif Sutherland, Tim Doiron, April Mullen, Ellen Dubin and Kevin McDonald.
